At the foot of the Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg
Ribeauvillé, Riquewihr and Saint-Hippolyte
For more than eight centuries, the Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg has been standing at an altitude of 700 m on a rocky ridge, dominating the Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr area. From here, you’ll be able to enjoy a view like no other over this historical wine region - on a clear day you may be able to see the town of Sélestat in the distance. The building is known by visitors from all over the world due its highly specific style, which mixes elements of the old fortress of the 12th century with neo-feudal inspirations dating from the great renovation of the castle at the beginning of the 20th century under Bodo Ebhardt.
From our hotel in Saint-Hippolyte, you’ll be able to easily and quickly access the castle in Orschwiller year round. You’ll be sure to appreciate the irregular and poetic shape of the murals, which follow the natural formation of the rocks as a means of integrating them into the structure. Your visit will also allow you to discover the stunning square keep, entirely reconstructed a century ago, as well as the castle’s upper garden and living areas.
